About Root Pouches
Growing your favourite plants in fabric Root Pouches is not only a great way to nurture their roots but is also a fantastic way to help keep plastic bottles out of landfill. Root Pouches are also great for use in Aquaponics and Hydroponics.
Root Pouch has created a range of sustainable gardening products made from a mix of recycled water bottles and natural fibres. Not one drop of new oil, petroleum or fossil fuel is used in their creation.
Benefits Of Growing In Root Pouches
Root pouches have many advantages over the traditional plastic post with their ability to reduce root circling (known as being “root bound”) being a major one.
They do this through the processes of air pruning and root entrapment. Fine feeder roots will either become entangled in the fabric and die off or penetrate the fabric where they encounter air and meet the same fate. This stimulates the plant to create new feeder roots that are generally better at taking up nutrients & water creating a healthier root mass & plant than old ones.

Growing Dwarf Trees in Root Pouches
Root Pouches are fantastic to grow many varieties of dwarf fruiting trees in, especially if you live in a rental property.
The 95L or 113L pouches are good for dwarf trees that are kept around 1.5 - 2 meters in height.
If you're going to let them grow taller than 2 meters I recommend you go with the 170L or larger, especially if they will be in a position where they will be blown about by strong winds. The larger base will help to act as ballast through storms.
Pouches planted out with trees, in particular, are require to be placed on a firm surface to prevent the tap roots growing through into the soil below.
A concrete paver, large plastic tray or even a circular section of builders plastic placed under the pouch would prevent the roots from establishing themselves in the soil.
